Aleksandra's Note:
Although it would not be possible to post every commemoration of "Drazin Dan" celebrated and marked around the July 17th anniversary of the death of General Mihailovich, there are those events which I feel compelled to post. This is one of those, because it is a "first". The St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Phoenix, Arizona celebrated its first "Drazin Dan" today, Sunday July 14, 2013.
Denise Orlich Kangrga posted photos of the event on the wonderful Facebook group "Ja Sam Iz Cetnicke Familije/I'm From a Chetnik Family" with the following description:
"Children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of Chetniks, holding the flag and pictures of their Chetnik relatives."
This statement inspired me to suggest the following initiative:
Every Serbian Orthodox Church in North America and the rest of the Diaspora should set aside one day in the summer to commemorate "Drazin Dan".
So many of our Serbian Orthodox Churches were built by the Chetniks who came to North America for refuge from communist Yugoslavia and made their lives here. We fortunate descendants of these patriots owe it to them and to the memory of General Draza Mihailovich to keep the legacy alive. Whenever I see children at such an event it renews my hope for the future and my confidence that the legacy of Mihailovich and his Chetniks
will live on forever.
And that is as it should be.
Sincerely,
Aleksandra Rebic
