Belgrade: An exhibition on the rescue of US pilots in Serbia in 1944 - [Halyard] / "Voice of Serbia" September 24, 2014

An exhibition of documents and photographs on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Halyard mission, during which more than 500 American airmen were rescued near the town of Čačak in Serbia, in the Second World War, has been opened in the Dom Garde mansion, in Topčider, Belgrade. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Defence Ministry, the Serbian Army, the US Embassy in Belgrade, the Halyard Foundation from Washington, DC, and by Serbian Army Chief of Staff general Ljubiša Diković. US Deputy Ambassador to Serbia Gordon Duguid said that the exhibition showed that the efforts and courage of Serbian people in the process of rescue of the US pilots had not been forgotten. Serbian President Advisor Oliver Antić said that representatives of the Yugoslav Army in the Homeland, led by Dragoljub Draza Mihailovic, had rescued more than 500 American airmen and their colleagues from other countries as well. President of the Halyard Foundation, lieutenant John Cappello, announced that Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić, Defence Minister Bratislav Gašić, Serbian President Advisor Oliver Antić and Serbian Army Chief of Staff general Ljubiša Diković had been awarded Foundation recognitions.
